Hansa Metallwerke AG's ambitious “Hansaedition” series seeks to realise its objectives at the highest level, aspiring not only to mixer, but also to water design. The Stuttgart-based company is proud to present its three designer mixers, “Hansalatrava”, “Hansacanyon” and “Hansamurano”, which constitute the Hansaedition series. Each piece is unique, creating an exceptionally individual setting for the water flowing through it. These iconic mixers combine technical innovation with intense emotion. Taken together, their sheer form perfectly embodies the Hansa philosophy: experience water.
Unprecedented: Hansalatrava
The multiple award-winning series Hansamurano and Hansacanyon are now joined by an additional creation - the spectacular Hansalatrava. The sculptural basin mixer, which represents a new milestone in the premium segment, is the latest proud recipient of the 2010 iF product design award. Hansalatrava pushes the boundaries of the Hansa philosophy “experience water”. A new archetype is created, both via the mixer’s asymmetry and thanks to the command it issues to the water to adopt a precisely constructed shape, an absolutely unprecedented, diagonal laminar jet. The delicate, almost two-dimensional water curtain is created with the aid of a specially developed jet shaper and a complex channel flow.
The spectacular effect is not created by the amount of liquid, but rather by its sophisticated distribution. Water consumption remains at a minimum. Hansalatrava cuts water use by up to 50 per cent more than a standard mixer. The mixer is operated via a small, integrated panel, which uses coloured light-emitting diodes to display the mixed water distribution.
An elemental water experience: Hansacanyon
The Hansacanyon mixer series also underscores the importance of an encounter with the liquid element and the manner of its presentation. The minimalist design courageously braves the primordial powers of the flowing water. High-tech design aspects such as the coloured, illuminated water jet and the electronic sensor controls provide contrasts and silence the competition. With its monolithic shape, the Hansacanyon mixer is the proud recipient of the design prizes “design plus”, the coveted “red dot” for highest design quality, and the iF product design award, and was also nominated for the 2006 Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Hansacanyon facilitates a fascinating, elemental experience of light and water at the technically highest level. The water rises from the depths smoothly yet powerfully, carving a path through the open watercourse and leaving it in a steady jet. Here, the static right angle of the mixer body provides an exciting contrast to the free-flowing water. The water is illuminated continuously in varying shades of red and blue, corresponding to its temperature, absorbing the light and gleaming colourfully until it splashes gracefully into the bottom of the basin. Light also has a functional significance in the Hansacanyon series. The electronic controls pass on commands to a technical unit under the basin via sensor buttons. The LED lighting strips in the operating unit provide the user with accurate feedback regarding water temperature. It’s worth noting that Hansacanyon uses up to 75 per cent less water and energy than conventional mixers.
Ancient bathing culture reinterpreted: Hansamurano
The development of the Hansamurano mixer focussed specifically on the design of the watercourse itself. Design and function go hand in hand in the case of this multiple award-winning mixer. Inspired by the Roman fountains of bygone days, the water frees itself, pouring over a curved glass dish in the form of a delicate liquid veil. The dish is made of clear, satin or azure blue hardened safety glass.
The dishes’ top and bottom sides are treated with Hansapermatec, a surface coating applied with the aid of nanotechnology. This reduces the build-up of lime and dirt and simplifies the long-term care of our high-quality glass dishes. And Hansamurano is not only low-maintenance, but also keeps expenditure to a minimum. The standard Hansaeco function with integrated water brake reduces water and energy consumption by up to 50 per cent.
New: a washbasin to match each premium mixer
The latest additions to the Hansa range are individual washbasin solutions complementing each mixer, whose exquisite, unusual material sets the stage for the fusion of mixer and basin, creating the perfect liquid setting for H2O.
Sacco and Zetsche: the brains behind Hansaedition
Bruno Sacco and Reinhard Zetsche orchestrated and masterminded the Hansaedition products. Sacco, a legend in the world of automotive design who used to head the design department at Daimler-Benz, has been working as a design consultant for Hansa since 2001. He teamed up with Reinhard Zetsche, who founded the design consultancy Octopus-Design after graduating, to create the mixer series Hansamurano, Hansacanyon and, more recently, Hansalatrava, all of which have won numerous design awards.
